Air Tools will last you a very long time if maintained properly. The most common causes of failure are, moisture, dirty air, to high air pressure and lack of lube. Always refer to your Air Tools owners manual for proper care and maintenance. Listed below are some recommended items to help you keep your Air Tools in top operating condition.
- Moisture - will remove lube from the surface of your internal Air Tool workings and as a result, will increase wear and possible siezure of the Air Tool. I recommend using a water trap and draining it on a regular basis. This will insure that your Air Tools will last longer and stay in top operating condition.
- Dirty Air - will act like sand paper on the internal workings of your Air Tools, increasing wear and loss of performance. I recommend inspecting and servicing your Air Compressors Air Filter on a regular basis to insure clean air is getting to your Air Tools.
- To High Air Pressure - will put extra stress on your Air Tools and could be dangerous, resulting in rapid wear and the Air Tool could explode the housing. I recommend you refer to your Air Tools owners manual for the recommended operating air pressure. You may need to install an adjustable air regulator to set air pressure to the proper pressure for your Air Tools.
- Lack of Lube - will cause rapid wear and possible Air Tool siezure. I recommend adding 2 to 3 drops of Air Tool Oil in the inlet fitting prior to use. Some Air Tools have a grease fitting in the housing and it takes a special grease gun for this. I recommend greasing your Air Tools at least 2 to 3 times a month if used on a daily basis. All it needs is 2 to 3 pumps of grease. It is important to use the correct grease for your Air Tool. There are two types of grease, one for steel housings and one for composite housings. Also some Air Tools have an oil reservoir and this needs to be checked on a regular basis and serviced. Refer to your Air Tools owners manual for recommended care and maintenance.
If you follow the above recommended precautions and maintenance, you will enjoy many years of trouble free service from your Air Tools. Always remmember to refer to your Air tools owners manual for complete details on recommended care and maintenance.
